Surface Support of Subsea Activities: Dynamics and Control in Harsh Environments

Glasgow March 16 - 20 1998
ISBN Number 1 900 453 07 X

Published by WEGEMT
These proceedings result from an event which was held in March 1998. The event was aimed at providing a sound theoretical base necessary for the analysis, design and operation of the main elements involved in surface support of subsea activities and illustrating the application of theory to practise through a number of case studies. The proceedings are based on the presentations of a team of experts drawn from universities, industry and research with an in-depth background in the selected topics. The course had a number of specific deliverables which are reflected in the contents of this WEGEMT publication - particularly providing:

A rational method for treating the operational environment and vessel-environment interactions in system design and performance assessment. Procedures for estimating cable-body dynamics for both conceptual and detailed design stages as well as in analysing operational scenarios. A theoretical base for the hydrodynamic loading and response of tethered subsea units and for the control strategies available to optimise their performance.

Procedures and operational guidelines for enhancing the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of surface support of subsea activities. These proceedings will provide an invaluable source of information to practising engineers and project managers in the offshore industry, offshore operators, oil companies, consultancies, regulatory bodies who wish to gain expertise in the analysis, design and operation of surface support of subsea activities. The publication contains the presentation papers outlined in the table below.
