WEGEMT Events

WEGEMT has long been associated with advanced education and training events which are primarily aimed at practising engineers and postgraduate students.

More often than not, the material contained within them touches on topics which are the subject of ongoing research and development or involve putting new methods into practise: they always deliver a comprehensive and detailed examination of the subject being explored. Our intention is always to ensure their relevance to industry, always ensure that the content is of a suitable standard and quality, such that it will enhance the attendees' current work or research interests, that they are also academically relevant, providing a useful supplement to teaching material and that they are delivered in a manner which helps to ensure that this knowledge transfer is enjoyable and interesting. Our events are balanced between theory and practise and our presenters are drawn from universities, research organisations, industry and other associations; wherever the most appropriate expertise happens to be.

WEGEMT organises different types of events depending on what is deemed to be the most appropriate method of delivery. To date, WEGEMT has focussed on the development of short (1 - 3 week) intensive advanced courses called "Schools". It also hosts one day Workshops and Seminars which focus less on "training" and more on demonstration and discussion of a particular topic. WEGEMT has also introduced a Conferences Programme. The first was held in 1999. This Programme extends to 2002, and hopefully beyond.

Six events are being held in 2001. Several are planned for 2002 and beyond. Some are supported by the IHP - Improving Human Potential programme, others are the subject of a recent application to extend the Programme into 2003.

All our Schools since 1997 have been supported by the European Commission's TMR Programme or its replacement, the Improving Human Potential Programme. This means that Mobility Awards are available to "Young Researchers" from the EU to enable them to attend the event with a substantial part of their travel, subsistence and registration costs paid.
